Lineage & Pedagogy

One tradition, taught by its inheritors.

Shiatsu Pro's curriculum is rooted in the Namikoshi tradition as carried by our founder, Master Hiroshi Tanaka, and refined over four decades of clinic work. In 2005 we co-developed an expanded meridian track with Kyoto's International Shiatsu College — the only North American school operating under that joint curriculum.

Students do not learn Shiatsu from recordings or from a single instructor's voice. Beginning in week one, they treat real patients across fourteen teaching clinics under direct supervision, then join live weekly clinical rounds with senior instructors averaging twenty-two years of practice at the table. Every technique on the syllabus has been workshopped in front of a faculty member before it earns credit.

  • Founding lineageNamikoshi tradition, carried by Master Hiroshi Tanaka since 2003.
  • Curriculum partnershipCo-developed with Kyoto's International Shiatsu College — exclusive North American licensing agreement.
  • Live clinical roundsWeekly rounds with senior faculty, all of whom maintain active clinical practices.
  • Teaching footprintFourteen satellite clinics across the U.S., Canada, Germany, the U.K., and Mexico City.

Pressure is not force. Pressure is attention. Every student must learn the difference before they touch another body — and they must keep relearning it, every week, for the rest of their practice. That is what the lineage hands down. That is what we teach.
